Here are the top three stories today in Roswell:

  1. Roswell’s long awaited Oxbo Road Project is expected to be completed next summer.
Construction crews are realigning Oxbo Road, the nearby side streets and a larger intersection at S. Atlanta Street is being reconstructed. Transportation Planning Manager David Cox, told Council members that crews are beginning to install sidewalks and medians in the area. Cox also stated that this long-delayed project should be completed by July 2023. If by chance that it is not, a majority of the construction should be “substantially” completed by October 2023. The City of Roswell recently used eminent domain at 50 Maple St., although the city previously paid for access to the parcel in 2018. Eminent domain in the amount of $88,000 was approved by the council. It is said that this recent use of eminent domain is a reminder of the misuse of funds and the mismanagement that occurred in the early stages of this endeavor. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. A new ice cream parlor has opened in Roswell. Cherried Mary's Ice Cream Parlor opened on Canton Street in downtown. The owners, Jasmin Willis and Conner Slewitzke, are also the proprietors of Gracious Plenty Bakery & Breakfast in Roswell. This unique shop offers 12 of their one-of-a-kind flavors like doughnut, butter pecan, pumpkin spice, lemon Biscoff, and a vegan peanut butter-chocolate ice cream. Sorbets, ice cream cookie sandwiches, milkshakes and house-made waffle cones are just some of the other items on their menu. They are also planning to offer alcoholic shakes and sangria popsicles in 2023. You can enjoy a sweet treat on their front or back patio seven days a week. (secretatlanta.co)
  3. The holiday season of 2022 is about to begin in the city of Roswell. The annual Lighting of the Christmas Tree event will take place on December 2 at the Heart of Roswell Park at Canton Street and Elizabeth Way. A new “Deck the Square” display of 30 community-decorated trees will be featured this year at Town Square. This affair will be filled with activities and entertainment such as choral performances, hot cocoa, fire pits, s’mores, a special reading of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas by Mayor Kurt Wilson and Santa Claus will be there too. Residents, families, businesses, schools and organizations can apply to claim a tree to decorate by November 28. The section of Canton Street that lies between Norcross Street and Magnolia Street will be closed for this event. (roswellatwork.com)
