Here are the top four stories in Roswell today:

  1. The City of Roswell has hired Linda Warren as the new Human Resources director. She was the previous Human Resource director of Union City, Georgia and as a senior business manager with the City of Atlanta's Department of Planning and Community Development. Warren brings 20 years of experience in human resource management. "I look forward to working with my incredible team, across departments, and with our many community partners to ensure that the goals outlined in the City’s strategic plan are met," Warren said. 2. The scarecrows are back in historic downtown Roswell to help celebrate the season. Local businesses, organizations, schools, and sports teams made their own scarecrows to be exhibited along Canton Street in downtown Roswell. The 5th annual BOO Y’aLL Scarecrow Contest is being hosted by the Roswell Women's Club. The community is being asked to use DONATE2VOTE to make their choice for their favorite scarecrow. The money that will be raised from this initiative will go towards education and the nonprofits in North Fulton. The voting period is open through October 29. The Roswell Women's Club will announce the winners from various categories on Facebook on October 30. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  3. Recent updates for the North Point Mall redevelopment project have been shared by Trademark Properties. The group detailed how much of the mall would be demolished and redeveloped into a “live-work-play” area like Avalon in Alpharetta and Halcyon in Cumming. They want to create a mixed-use neighborhood that's active 24/7. The outline for the community consists of 315,000 ft. of retail and restaurant space, a hotel, and housing. The housing options will include rental units and for-sale properties. Alpharetta Planning Commission approved these plans on August 4, however, the plan is subject to multiple conditions. The Alpharetta City Council will approve the final plans for the project on November 7. (appenmedia.com)
  4. Ronin Molina-Salas is an alumni from the Swift School in Roswell. The Swift School is a local private school for children with dyslexia and other speech needs. Molina-Salas has now become a commercial diver who recovers boats or big structures that need to be removed from ocean floors and river bottoms. Molina-Salas gives the Swift School praise by helping stimulate and nurture his passion for diving. "They knew that my father was a diver, and they used some of his influence and his stories to motivate me to do stuff," Molina-Salas said. He still uses lessons and resources that he acquired from the Swift School to help him with his present work. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
