Here are the top three stories in Roswell today:

  1. Around 2:00 PM on February 24, the Roswell Police Department received a 911 call regarding a person being shot. When law enforcement, including the North Fulton SWAT, arrived at the scene on Grove Way, a person with a gunshot wound to the upper shoulder and thigh was found. The victim was transported to nearby Wellstar North Fulton Hospital. The injuries were non life threatening. The suspected assailant was found barricaded in a nearby apartment unit with his mother. The suspect finally complied with the SWAT team a little after 5:00 PM, and was tased as he was exiting the home. He was then taken to the hospital. (11alive.com)
  2. Charles Grogan is known as Roswell’s “Black Historian” and for the last 40 years, he has been working on a book of his family's complete and extensive history. He has collected and preserved endless documents and pieces of research that goes back to the 1800s. He doesn't see himself as "Roswell's Black Historian, he says. He sees himself more as a “living historian.” Grogan has been working with the Roswell Historical Society since 2001 and is currently on the board of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Committee. He continues to dedicate his life to preserving the history of his family as well as Roswell's comprehensive Black history. (appenmedia.com)
  3. More details have been released regarding the lawsuit against Fulton County Schools and the Fulton Academy of Science and Technology (FAST) in Roswell. The overall claim is that the entities did not "do enough" and use the proper methods to stop a former teacher from raping a student in 2020. The lawsuit names the Superintendent of Fulton County Schools, Mike Looney, the former superintendents Cindy Loe and Jeff Rose, several FAST principals and assistant principals and other individuals as defendants. The lawsuit is 100 pages long and states that Fulton County Schools and those who directly hired the teacher did so despite previous history of claims at other schools in the state. The suit also states that the Georgia Professional Standards Commission has numerous records of reports of grooming, sexual harassment and sexual assault against the former teacher and that these allegations and reports were made before he was hired at the Fulton Academy of Science and Technology.(californiaexaminer.net)
