Here are the top four stories today in Roswell:
- A proposal to reduce the property tax rate for fiscal year 2023 is being put forth by the Roswell City Council. If approved, this new rate will be 5.4% lower than the previous year and will be the lowest rate in more than 30 years. The mayor has said that despite the property value increases seen throughout the city, residents will not experience an increase in their property tax bill. There will be two public hearings to discuss this proposal. The meetings will be held in person at City Hall and they will be streamed online on August 29 September 12. (facebook.com)
- A sergeant with the Roswell PD conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing the car had a loud exhaust but no mufflers. It also appeared that the vehicle did not have a tag, however, there was a cover where the tag should have been. There was a tag underneath the cover. At the traffic stop the officer confirmed the car had illegal window tint and a small amount of marijuana along with some paraphernalia were also discovered. All of the items found were seized as contraband. The man was charged with no exhaust and concealing his tag but was not arrested.(appenmedia.com)
- The Roswell FD wants to let residents know that their department is now being used in a fake scam targeting residents. Members of the community have shared that they are receiving text messages that advertise Roswell Fire Department shirts for sale. The fire department has reminded residents that this is not "legitimate or associated with RFD. Do not click on any unfamiliar links or provide any money or personal information to unknown sources." This recent scam is in similar fashion to the text message scheme regarding the Roswell PD and fake shirts for sale. (facebook.com)
- Fulton County Schools has appointed two former two assistant principals to become principals of elementary schools. One of which in North Fulton. Takisha Benning will become the principal at Barnwell Elementary School in Johns Creek. The board of education approved the appointments at last Thursday's meeting. Benning has been the assistant principal at Northview High School for the past four years. (Paywall: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
