Here are the top four stories today in Roswell:

  1. The TSPLOST II Nesbit Ferry Road project received approval by an an agreement between The City of Roswell and The City of Johns Creek. This endeavor will include operations and and improvements of intersections, sidewalks, and a multi-use trail along Nesbit Ferry Road. These improvements will occur between Holcomb Bridge Rd. and Old Alabama Road. Johns Creek City Council has approved the agreement first and will take the lead on the project. The expected cost for the TSPLOT II project is $8.5 million. Roswell will offer support. It’s portion of the cost will not to exceed $1 million. The city of Johns Creek will cover $7.5 million.(Paywall: ajc.com)
  2. At the August 29 City Council meeting, there was a unanimous approval of the first reading of the proposed property tax rate ordinance. The city of Roswell proposed plan to reduce the property tax rate goal would offset inflationary increases in property values. The second reading of the ordinance is set for September 12. If this second reading is also approved, residents of Roswell should expect to see no increase in their city property tax bill in comparison to last year's bill. Mayor Wilson congratulated the "council’s foresight and the work of the whole team in coming up with a budget strategy that has enabled us to reduce the tax rate to help Roswell’s taxpayers.” The final property tax rate meeting on September 12 will be open to residents.   3. The 30-day Elkins Road Crosswalk Project begins today. North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC) will fund this project. Two handicap accessible ramps, a pedestrian refuge island in the center lanes and Rapid Flashing Beacons (RFB) will be built. This new crosswalk will be constructed on Elkins Road near Bombay Lane. The city will place signage in nearby areas to alert drivers and residents of the work that will occur Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (www.facebook.com)
  4. The daily print edition of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution will be discontinued. The company will start delivering a weekend print edition only. Digital news will continue online daily. Senior editors at the paper were made aware of this decision during a September 1 Zoom meeting. A timeframe in regards to the implementation of the discontinuation of the daily print edition has not been announced, but is said to likely occur in 2023. However, Kevin Riley of the newsroom, didn't confirm this change. He suggested that there is a likelihood the print edition will be discontinued. (saportareport.com)

  • Blessed Trinity HS: Blessed Trinity High School will host the Inaugural Patriotism Bowl. Blessed Trinity Titans will battle against the St. Pius X Golden Lions. The football game will take place on September 9. The pre-game ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m. (Blessed Trinity Athletics via Twitter)
  • The City of Roswell: The 2022 "Best Sips in Roswell" winners were announced. Pop's Coffee Co. and Fresco Cantina Grill were this year's winners. There were three businesses who won top-3 for the best non-alcoholic drinks and a top-5 for the best alcoholic drinks in the city. (Visit Roswell via Facebook)
  • The Roswell Women's Club shared its Sunday Spotlight which featured Kristen Hypolite with Every Woman Works, Inc. She shared how the Roswell Women's Club's nonprofit grant is being used in our city. (The Rowell Women's Club via Instagram)
  • Nextdoor Neighbor, Wexford: The Wexford Club House in Roswell will host a free seminar that will share information on navigating Alzheimer’s or Dementia. This seminar will be presented by VCS and will include a panel of experts. This informational session will take place on October 13. (Nextdoor)
