Here are the top stories in Roswell today:
- The sports programs in the city have been developing high school athletes that are wanted by colleges and universities all over the country. Roswell and Centennial high schools have many student-athletes who have been drafted to some pretty top schools. Another top athlete from Roswell High School has been making his rounds to narrow down his options. Anthony Knapp is a 6-foot-5, 268 lbs. senior and football star. He spent the last two days "unofficially" visiting the three Triangle colleges in North Carolina. Knapp spent time at Duke University and North Carolina State on Friday, March 3. He is visiting the University of North Carolina on Saturday. (ncstate.rivals.com)
- A stabbing was reported at the Studio 6 Hotel on Old Dogwood Rd. on February 22. Police were called to the scene after a dispute broke out between two women. A couple who was staying at the hotel told officers that a woman came knocked on their door and tried to force her way into the room once the door was opened. The man moved the woman back outside of the hotel room and to back to her car while she began to argue. The man then went to the front desk. Meanwhile, the woman returned to the couple's room and was cut in the face with a knife by the girlfriend of the man residing in the room. The couple told police that the woman was a co-worker of the boyfriend and had been harassing him. The girlfriend was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. The woman who was cut in the face was taken to North Fulton Hospital for treatment. (appenmedia.com)
- On the morning of March 3, the Roswell Fire Department was called to the scene of an apartment fire at the Villas del Marisol apartment complex on Old Holcomb Bridge Way. A resident reported seeing fire from the second-floor of a building. Upon arrival firefighters searched 16 units in the building to make sure there was no one trapped inside while they began to work on putting out the blaze. Eight units were effected by fire, smoke, and/or water damage and eighteen residents have been displaced by the fire. The Red Cross and Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency will aide those who were displaced. No fatalities were reported; one individual was taken to the hospital and was is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. (facebook.com)
- Employees of a U-Haul rental location on Holcomb Bridge Rd. reported the theft of one of their trucks. The incident occurred on February 27 after workers realized that a person rented one of their vehicles by using a fake driver's license. U-Haul officials have tried contacting the individual who "rented" the truck multiple times to no avail. The regional manager of the store believes the truck probably has different tags on it by now. A U-Haul store manager in Florida stated that he saw a truck with an identical equipment number as that of the stolen vehicle, however, it had a different tag than what it was registered with. The Roswell PD is still investigating this theft. (appenmedia.com)
