🌱Volunteers Needed + Recruiting for Police Departments + YMCA Program

Here are the top four stories today in Roswell:
- North Fulton Charities in Roswell is in urgent need of volunteers. It is experiencing a need for the Food Recovery Team. Volunteers will pick up donated food from local grocery stores and restaurants and deliver it to North Fulton Charities. These items will be donated to the food pantry. NFCC needs these volunteers for pick-ups either weekly or monthly. (paywall:ajc.com)
- Cities in North Metro Atlanta, including Roswell, are working hard to recruit new officers and to keep veteran staff as well. Increased pay have been one of the major incentives offered. Nationally there has been a record amount of resignations and decreased hiring rates among law enforcement agencies. North Metro Atlanta is no exception. Earlier this summer the Roswell City Council approved a $1.9 million “Best in Class” Police Pay Plan which includes a 20% increase to starting salaries. Other benefits being offered by departments are health insurance benefits, housing stipends, signing bonuses, a take home vehicle and education assistance. (appenmedia.com)
- A group of masked thieves made off with approximately $17,000 worth of chainsaws from a power tools shop in Alpharetta. Video footage shows the heist took less than five minutes. The tools taken were high-end, non-standard chainsaws. There has been reports of increasing numbers of power tool thefts in the Metro area. (wsbtv.com)
- School in Fulton County is set to begin on Monday. The afterschool program of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, which includes the Ed Isakson/Alpharetta YMCA, has opened registration. The program is created for pre-K through fifth grade students. It focuses on academic and social development. They YMCA ise also hiring staff for the afterschool program. (reporternewspapers.net)

- Roswell Adult Recreation Center: The Roswell Adult Recreation Center will host the first eight weeks of classes for Autism Improvised Shenanigans Improv. Autism Improvised uses theater programs to build communication and adaptive thinking skills for older elementary, middle and high school student and adults. (facebook.com)
- New Business Spotlight: Franny’s Farmacy Alpharetta opened in April 2022. It is a hemp-derived CBD dispensary and promotes natural wellness. It has an array of topicals, oils and products for pets as well. (appenmedia.com)
- The city of Alpharetta has announced that Republic Services is still unable to pick up glass for recycling services. Due to staffing issues, glass has not been collected since last week. (twitter.com)
