Here are the top three stories today in Roswell:
- Roswell's participation in the Low Income Household Water Assistance Program has been renewed. This program is offered through a partnership with the Georgia Department of Human Services and helps low-income households with past due balances on their water bill who qualify. Since last November, residents in Roswell have been awarded a total of $7,481 in assistance. Client intake and eligibility is conducted by the The Fulton Atlanta Community Action Authority. Residents of the city must have a total gross income at or below 60% of the State Median Income Guidelines for Georgia, be obligated to pay the water bill for the household, and be a U.S. citizen or lawfully admitted immigrant to qualify for the program. - An agreement has been made between The Roswell City Council and the Downtown Development Authority. The two entities will work together to design a city master plan for development to the intersection of Holcomb Bridge Road and GA Highway 9. The Sizemore Group has been selected to complete the plan to redevelop the area around this intersection. Mayor Kurt Wilson expressed that “we envision mixed-use development and community services at this location.” According to a letter from the Sizemore Group, completion of the master plan is estimated to take six months. Three community meetings at the City of Roswell's request are to take place during the redevelopment period. (appenmedia.com)
- Fulton County is giving the green light for new technology that will allow school buses to turn traffic lights green. This technology has been tested in Alpharetta in which two school buses and 62 intersections are using the devices to allows the bus drivers to change traffic lights to green when on red. Advocates for the program argue that this program will boost bus driver's efficiency, get students to school more safely, on time and will decrease fuel consumption. It will cost about $5,000 to install each bus and intersection with the devices. The county did not specify when this will go into effect for all buses in the Fulton County School System.
