Here are the top three stories in Roswell today:

  1. Three local businesses in Roswell have weighed in on the conversation regarding challenges that restaurants are facing due to the rising costs of inflation and the affects of the pandemic. The owners of Big Oak Tavern, Bayou'Q Smokin' Bistreaux & Bar and The Vick on Canton in Historic Roswell, explain the barriers that have been plaguing not only their businesses, but many restaurants in the Metro Atlanta area and the nation. The most challenging obstacles faced are staffing issues, supply-chain issues, and rising food costs. "I haven't increased my prices yet but that's coming, because you have to to survive," Marcus Dickman, the owner of Bayou'Q, explained. Per a recent survey conducted by the Voice of the Restaurant Industry, 36% of restaurants reported having to increase their prices in response to inflation and 31% had to reduce their menu. These Roswell restaurateurs are constantly trying to adapt to this difficult environment and their dedication to the industry and the art, are fueling their commitment to serve the community. 2. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funds a Community Water Fluoridation Program for the entire State of Georgia. The Georgia Department of Health partners with the Georgia Rural Water Association to manage and coordinate this program. An annual inventory of water treatment facilities that uses fluoride is conducted. This inventory is used to create an annual report on fluoride usage, and gives opportunities to fund upgrades to and the construction of water plant fluoride systems. Roswell's Water Treatment Plant was visited in April by a representative of the Georgia Rural Water Association. Andy Hamby, the assistant plant manager, discussed the city’s upgraded fluoride feed system during that meeting. The association recommended that Hamby to submit the upgrade costs for possible reimbursement. Roswell has now received $21,087 to help cover the costs for construction and materials for the upgrade. The City of Roswell thanks Hamby and plant staff for this reimbursement of funds. (Paywall: ajc.com)
  3. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is conducting the National Drug Takeback campaign. The City of Roswell will participate by holding the city's Fall Drug Takeback event on October 29 at the Kroger at 570 E. Crossville Rd. in Roswell. Residents are urged to bring expired, unwanted and unused prescription medications to be collected in order to dispose the medication safely. The Roswell Police Department will oversee the collection, and reported that at the last collection day the department received 200 pounds of medication. The Roswell PD reminds residents to clean old and unused medication from your home as non-medical use of prescription drugs is the second most common form of drug abuse in the U.S. (facebook.com)
