  1. Wellstar North Fulton Medical Center in Roswell has recently achieved a major accomplishment. The Joint Commission, a national health nonprofit, has certified the hospital as a comprehensive stroke center. The hospital has advanced diagnostic and therapy tools for "highly complex" stroke cases. Jon-Paul Croom, the president of Wellstar North Fulton, states that this new certification ensures the local community that people “don’t have to go far to receive the best treatment possible.” Wellstar North Fulton is now one of eight comprehensive stroke centers in Georgia. 2. The Georgia General Assembly officially began their 2023 Legislative Session last month. Sen. John F. Kennedy (R – Macon), will be presiding as President Pro Tempore of the Georgia Senate. Since January, the Georgia Senate has been addressing different "budgetary and legislative priorities." Sen. John Albers (R – Roswell) introduced Senate Bill 11 last week. This is the first bill of the session and is called the “Georgia Fights Terrorism Act.” If passed, this bill will give the Georgia Bureau of Investigation the right to work separately or with other law enforcement agencies to investigate and arrest those who exercise in activities of domestic, cyber, biological, chemical or nuclear terrorism. 3. The Kohl’s lot in East Roswell has been vacant since 2016, but that will soon change. Eagles Nest Church purchased the property for $13 million in December 2022. Lee Jenkins, the Senior Pastor of Eagles Nest Church, said that changes should be coming to the area within the next year and a half. He plans for the space to be used not only for religious services and events, but is looking into creating a multi-use development. The pastor says that he would like “a destination spot that could spur economic and social activity.” The plans for the site are still in the early stages of conception and development and have not been shared yet. 4. Summer jobs with the City of Roswell's Recreation, Parks, Historic & Cultural Affairs Department are available. They are looking to hire sprayground attendants, lifeguards, counselors for camp, and athletics and arts instructors. There are over 150 open positions. Those age 15 and up can apply. The City of Roswell says their summer jobs are a "perfect way to not only obtain meaningful work experience and build your resume; it's also a great way to make new friends and give back to your community." Teachers, retirees, and students who are looking for seasonal work in the summer are encouraged to apply. (Press Release Desk )
