Woman Killed in Friday's Midtown Shooting Was Roswell Grad

Brittney Watts, a Decatur resident and Roswell High School graduate, was killed during the shooting in Midtown Atlanta on Friday, July 15.

The woman who was fatally shot Friday in a Midtown parking deck has been identified as 26-year old Brittney Watts, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Watts was a Decatur resident and graduate of both Roswell High School and the University of Georgia, the AJC reported. She had recently moved back to the Atlanta area, according to her blog.

The blog, titled "Small Dreams," was regularly updated with pictures and short snippets from Watts' life, including a photo of Atlanta with a caption that declared how happy she was to be back. Another post pictured a drawing with the following quote: "She said she usually cried at least once a day not because she was sad, but because the world was so beautiful & life was so short."

Police say Nkosi Thandiwe, 22, shot Watts and two other women Friday in a lunch-time shooting in the parking deck on Crescent Avenue and 14th Street. The two other women were wounded and taken to Grady Hospital.

 late Friday afternoon and charged him with one count of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. He was a security guard at The Proscenium building at Peachtree and 14th, just across the street from the parking deck.

Thandiwe "waived his rights to appear before a Fulton County magistrate" on Saturday, according to the AJC.

His next court appearance is scheduled for July 29 at the Fulton County Courthouse in downtown Atlanta.
