Here are the top three stories today in Roswell:

1. The city's "Bring One for the Chipper" event will be on Saturday, January 7. This recycling event has been a tradition in Georgia for 32 years. It is the largest tree recycling program in the country. Christmas trees will be recycled and repurposed into mulch. There will also be volunteers on onsite at the Home Depot stores on Holcomb Bridge Road and Woodstock Road in Roswell to help unload trees. Flocked trees and those with the bases, lights and/or ornaments still applied will not be accepted. This environmentally-friendly event will last from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. (roswellgov.com)

2. The City Council has accepted a right-of-way agreement for future sidewalk maintenance for a property on Prospect Street. This maintenance is included in the construction of a home at this location. The agreement allows the city to make a "minor right-of-way widening" on one side of the road. These changes will make the city compliant with the revised Unified Development Code and Design Guidelines. The homeowner has also agreed and built the sidewalk with the required right-of-way noted by the Unified Development Code. (Paywall: ajc.com)

3. A Kennesaw man was arrested for battery in Downtown Roswell on December 18. Multiple witnesses said the man "attacked and punched" an individual in the face. When police arrived, the assailant told police that he had not struck anyone, although he had blood on his fist. Witnesses told police that the victim's tongue and cheekbones were injured. Although the victim did not want to press charges, the attacker was arrested and booked into the Fulton County Jail. (appenmedia.com)
