- The Youth Day celebration is today in the city. After the morning parade, the festivities will continue with numerous events and activities. One of which will be a performance by Colombian-born singer and songwriter, Nathalia Palis. She will grace the Roswell Cultural Arts Center on Saturday afternoon with melodies of bilingual children's songs. She is also an educator and incorporates learning and culture in her music. She has a background in music therapy and uses that skill as on of her inspirations to creating music. (WABE 90.1 FM)
- The Roswell Police Department is reminding residents in the city of when and in what scenarios to call 911 vs. the non-emergency number. The non-emergency line should be used for non-threating events and complaints or incidents that occurred in the past. The department implores citizens not to delay police or medical assistance due to searching for the non-emergency number. You could still call 911, because at the city's communications center, both 911 and non-emergency calls are routed to the same staff. The calls to 911 are, of course, of higher priority. Therefore, the non-emergency line may experience delays in answering calls during periods of high call-volume. If you're questioning which line to call, the department advises to just call 911. - The Roswell City Council has accepted a $117,076 grant agreement with Cobb County for HOME Investment Partnership Program funds. Through its participation in the Georgia Urban County Consortium, the City of Roswell will receive the HOME funds. This funding can be used for building, buying, and/or the rehabilitation of affordable housing. The funds can also provide rental assistance to people with low-income. Fifteen percent of the total grant award is required to be utilized by a certified Community Housing Development Organization. (Paywall: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
