Sharpsburg, GA — From their time in uniform to their everyday contributions in our neighborhoods, veterans embody service in so many forms. Patch and T-Mobile have teamed up to share stories of veterans making a difference in the places we call home.

This story was submitted by Patricia Esposito, who nominated Joseph Timothy Richardson III of Sharpsburg. To share your own message of gratitude, click here to answer a few questions and we'll take it from there.

My son ‘Joey’ joined the MD Air National Guard 175th Wing back in 2006. He served three tours of duty, deploying to Afghanistan and Iraq. He lives in Georgia now and still serves in the Air National Guard Reserve Unit there. He volunteers for his church and the local high school band doing concessions or whatever is needed. Joey is a shining example of a dedicated family man, devout Christian and loyal to his country. He graduated from Bel Air High School in 2005, married his high school sweetheart, Catherine ‘Cate’ Richardson (née Burns), and they have two beautiful children, Chloe and Owen.

How do you know the veteran?

He is my son.

What makes the veteran someone your community should know about?

He has become the man, father and community member/neighbor everyone looks up to. He is always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He volunteers whenever he can, even though he works a full-time-plus job and has two kids. He volunteers for his kids’ school programs, at his church and also helps those in and around his town. To say he has made us proud is an understatement.

What three words best describe the veteran?

Only three? Hardworking, loyal, dedicated (sweet, smart, funny, go-with-the-flow, compassionate, puts others before himself).
