$10,529 Awarded Each to Shiloh High Student, School

Shiloh High School and one of its students were awarded $10,529 apiece as part of Path2College 529 Plan's 10,000 Reasons to Save Sweepstakes. 

“Winning this sweepstakes means a lot to me," said Anand Shah, the 17-year-old senior who was presented the check. "Even though I was lucky, or blessed, to win this, every penny goes a long way in securing my future education and I thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Path2College 529 Plan is Georgia's 529 savings plan. Having been around for 11 years, more than $1.3 billion has been saved, and more than 18,000 Georgia families have withdrawn around $238 million to send Georgians to college.    

For Shah, his parents have been saving up since he was in elementary school for his 529 plan. With college next year, he's interested in pre-med and hopes to eventually complete his MD and MBA. He's been looking at several top colleges, including Georgia Tech, Brown University and the University of Florida.

“Schools across the state work so hard to prepare our students for their academic futures,” said Mitch Seabaugh, executive director of the Path2College 529 Plan. “And we are working to help them prepare financially for their future. By working together and helping our schools, everyone wins. Most importantly, our students are better prepared for a successful life after high school as they enter the next phase of their lives.”

The statewide sweepstakes had two student winners this fall, and those students' schools were awarded funds, too. In addition to Shah and Shiloh, 1-year-old Isabelle Stoltz, of Watkinsville, and the Oconee County School System also were awarded $10,529 each last week. 

While the check will go toward Shah's college career, Shiloh High has some big plans with its funds. 

"A big need that we have is technology and increased technology," said Shiloh Principal Eric Parker, "so that, I think, will definitely go toward that fund."
