Balloon Release Held to Honor Childhood Cancer Month
The city of Snellville and the Brookwood High marching band released the balloons Friday at the school's football game against Parkview.

The city of Snellville held a balloon release before the Brookwood v. Parkview gameΒ last Friday (Sept. 27)Β to honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and the Amanda Riley Foundation.Β
SnellvilleΒ Mayor Kelly Kautz and the high school marching bandΒ released the balloons from the Broncos stadium. As the gold balloons were let go into the sky, game attendees were asked toΒ take a moment of silence to honor the families affected by childhoodΒ cancer.Β
Amanda Riley's family is one of those families.Β Riley was a three-time sports student at Brookwood High who passed away of cancer in 2010. Her parents,Β Barbara and Steve Riley, formed the Amanda Riley Foundation in her memory and have made it their mission to bring a smile to the face of children battling cancer and their families.Β
In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, the Amanda Riley Foundation sold gold t-shirts, with gold representing childhood cancer. The mayorΒ purchased the shirts bearing the City of Snellville symbolΒ for the city staff.Β
Studens also wereΒ encouraged to wear gold t-shirts with the Bronco and Amanda Riley Foundation logo on them to the game.Β
