Boykin Announces Official Run for Council
Local resident and Snellville Art Commission Vice Chairwoman Alisa Boykin is challenging Snellville Mayor Pro Tem Tom Witts in the upcoming November election.

Local resident and Snellville Art Commission Vice Chairwoman Alisa Boykin officially announced Tuesday (Aug. 27)Β her run for the Snellville City Council.Β
When qualifying Monday, BoykinΒ decided toΒ challenge Mayor Pro Tem Tom Witts for his postΒ in the November general election. His seat, along with two other seats, are on the ballot.Β
According to a news release, Boykin moved to Snellville from South Carolina nearly 10 years ago. She is a published author, and she and her husband ownΒ Time 2 Inspire, a performing arts studio for youth that teaches music, acting, modeling, dance and more. Their office is inΒ Snellville and they haveΒ aΒ studio at Northlake Mall.Β
She is also the founderΒ of the nonprofitΒ Educational Arts Programs (EAP) of America. Snellville Patch didΒ a profile on herΒ last year.
Boykin said sheΒ decided to pursue a position on the Snellville City Council because she is passionate about the city and believes she can bring a fresh perspective to the council.
If elected, Boykin will be the first African-American female to serve on the Snellville City Council and would be the only minority on the current Council.
Boykin will be officially kicking off her campaign on Thursday, September 5th at Bruster's Ice Cream in Snellville at 6:30 p.m. with free ice cream to the first 100 people.Β
