Brookwood Boys, Girls Dominate in Tennis

Broncos also prevail in boy and girls golf.

The boys tennis team impressed each time out on the court last week, first taking a 5-0 decision over St. Pius X Wednesday before taking out 5-0 last Thursday, followed by a 5-0 thumping of Archer in a makeup match Friday. Against the Golden Lions, Brookwood was led by Randy Phillips, Mark Guentert and Will George in singles while Drew Wendel/Matt Jones and Brandon Mills/David Brown claimed doubles points. After whipping Dacula, Brookwood claimed the regular season Region 8-5A title with the sweep of Archer. Once again Phillips won in singles along with Wendel and Brown, while Jody Chan/Jones and Amarin Montroy/Rahul Sharma won doubles points. The Brookwood girls wouldn’t be outdone by their male counterparts, as the Lady Broncos also whitewashed Archer 5-0. The sweep was made possible by singles wins from Liz Slaughter, Sheridan Schuster and Rebecca Norton. The sweep was finished off by doubles victories from Katie Hedlund/Gabbie Griffith and Emily Gray/Katie Kraft. The Lady Broncos also claimed a 5-0 sweep of Dacula thanks to the efforts of Leah Pridgeon, Molly McClintock and Liz Slaughter. ... The Lady Panther tennis team shut out 5-0 in a Region 8-5A contest. received a singles victory from Dominque Guelce but fell to Grayson 4-1.

In another edition of the Battle of Five Forks Trickum, the Brookwood girls golf team edged Parkview 90-93 last Wednesday. Taylor Allen led Brookwood with a 40, bettering Ashley Pilgrim’s 43, which was the low score for Parkview. The boys golf teams of Parkview and Brookwood also got together last Wednesday, and it was Brookwood again holding the Panthers at arm’s length. Patrick Kendrick’s even par paced the Broncos in their 156-161 victory. The Panthers were led by Ted Moon’s 37 in the narrow loss.
