Election Results 2015: Snellville Says Yes to E-SPLOST, Elects New Mayor

The tax is expected to bring $950 million to the Gwinnett and Buford school districts. Also, Mayor Kelly Kautz was ousted by Tom Witts.

Gwinnett County voters overwhelming said yes to continue a 1-percent sales tax to pay for education projects in the Gwinnett County and City of Buford school systems.

Yes votes outnumbered no votes by nearly a 3 to 1 margin in Tuesday’s general election (see results below).

The approval of E-SPLOST (Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) means an extension of the current SPLOST after it expires in June 2017.

The tax is expected to generate $950 million -- $927,675,000 for Gwinnett and $22,325,000 for Buford.

Also Tuesday, Tom Witts beat Kelly Kautz in the three-person race for mayor. Dave Emanuel, Roger Marmol and Cristy Lenski won council seats.

The city said about 1,500 Snellville residents voted out of more than 12,000 registered voters.
