Hackers Take Down GoDaddy.com

If you can't log onto some of your favorite sites, blame Anonymous, the hacking collective.

Around 3 p.m. on Monday, sites affiliated with GoDaddy.com went down. GoDaddy tweeted, "So many messages, can't get to you all... Sorry to hear all your frustration. We're working feverishly to resolve as soon as possible."

The outage affects sites and emails affiliated with GoDaddy.com, a popular domain-hosting site.

Jonathan Wofford, local internet guru and owner of Freskos Media, confirmed that a number of his clients' sites are down. He works with the Greater Eastside Chamber of Commerce, among others, although that site has not been affected.

"...I still have a few sites hosted with them," said Wofford, "but they are some that I don't want to move just yet. Although I may have no choice dependent on the outcome of the hacking."

Users are expressing their frustrating to Anonymous' Twitter account, with messages like, "Very impressive feat. When will further reasons/details be released? Myself as well others are rather curious."

Their response to one user's curiosity was succinct: "I'm taking godaddy (sic) down bacause well i'd like to test how the cyber security is safe and for more reasons that i can not talk now."

According to CBSNews.com, GoDaddy was the target of previous protests after it supported the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA).

Although the account takes responsibility for the outage, it has not been confirmed.
