Hearing Scheduled for City Council Candidate's Eligibility

A hearing has been scheduled regarding the eligibility of one of the Snellville City Council candidates in the upcoming November election. 

Some citizens have questioned if Alisa Boykin legally qualifies to run for Post 3 on the city council against incumbent Tom Witts. The city announced Boykin's candidacy during qualifying week the last week of August. 

Patch blogger Kenneth Stepp believes she has not been a city resident for 12 months, which is a requirement to run. He claims that her driver's license was not renewed to a Snellville address until Aug. 26, when she qualified for candidacy, and Georgia law states residents need to update their licenses within 30 days after moving. He added that she voted in Loganville last November.

Boykin told Snellville Patch that these claims are not true. 

"I can state that the allegation against me and the claim that I am not a resident of the city of Snellville is completely false, unfounded and politically motivated," she said. "I am anxious to present the truth to the city of Snellville that I have been a resident for a couple of years."

The hearing has been set for Thursday (Oct. 3) at 11 a.m. at Snellville City Hall, located at 2342 Oak Rd. The election superintendent will be hearing the case. The public is welcome to attend.
