Mayor Purchases Brick for Snellville Veterans Memorial

Kelly Kautz' message on the brick paver thanks all those who have served the country.

Mayor Kelly Kautz announced during her mayor's report at Monday's city council meeting (Aug. 26) that she will be purchasing a brick paver for the Snellville Veterans Memorial using campaign funds.Β

The brick is for remembering all city veterans, according to Kautz. It will read, "Thank you to ALL veterans who have served our country."

Kautz explained thatΒ she wishesΒ the pavers could be free for all veterans since many are living on a limited or fixed income. The bricks range from $120 to $175, depending on size.Β

Mayor Pro Tem TomΒ Witts, who helped spearhead the project,Β responded that if veterans are interested in purchasing a brick but cannot afford it, the project committeeΒ will take their service status and situation into consideration.Β

The veterans memorialΒ is fully funded through donations and the purchase of bricks. While $49,000 has been pledged so farΒ as of last week, there's still $20,000 more needed.Β The project, which breaks ground Saturday (Aug. 31)Β at the corner of Oak Road and Stone Mountain Highway,Β will be aΒ water fountainΒ surrounded by a wall filled with the bricks.Β
