McCann Closer to Leaving Braves

The free agent catcher and Gwinnett resident declines an Atlanta qualifying offer.

Brian McCann's career with the Atlanta Braves is closer to being officially over.

According to a media report, the Duluth High grad and Gwinnett resident has declined a recent qualifying offer from the Braves that actually was designed to bring Atlanta some compensation.

Atlanta's qualifying offer was for one year at $14.1 million. McCann is expected to receive multi-year offers that could reach the range of $80-100 million. He is expected to receive the most attention from American League teams, where he could also be used as a designated hitter.

McCann, 29, batted .256 last season in 102 games, with 20 home runs. If McCann leaves, Atlanta has backup Evan Gattis ready at catcher.
