North Gwinnett may be the No. 3 playoff seed in Region 7-AAAAAA, but it is No. 1 in statewide football rankings.
Following Friday's 44-22 thumping of Suwanee rival Peachtree Ridge, the Bulldogs of Coach Bob Sphire moved back into the top spot. The rankings are compiled by Georgia High School Football Daily and ajc.com.
North, Collins Hill and Norcross were declared region co-champs after each went 7-1 in the region and 1-1 against the others. However, a coin-toss scenario was needed to determine playoff seedings.
Thus, the state's No. 1-ranked team will have to play on the road for its playoff opener -- and maybe after that.
Also in the latest rankings, Norcross is No. 5 and Collins Hill No. 7.
For Suwanee teams, first-round playoff games Friday (Nov. 15) are as follows:
- NORTH GWINNETT: at Milton.
- COLLINS HILL: hosts Walton.
- PEACHTREE RIDGE: at Lassiter.
