Police: Suwanee Man Head-Butts Mother, Hits Her in Head With Broomstick

Flenniken is charged with aggravated assault. His mother requires stitches for the injuries.

A Suwanee man has been charged with aggravated assault and is being held without bond in connection with an incident involving his mother, police say.

On March 12, Gwinnett Police were summoned to an assault call, because a Duluth woman was being treated for injuries at Gwinnett Medical. The woman told police that her son, Mark Allen Flenniken (of a Cherokee Trail address) hit her in the head with a broomstick. The incident report also says that Flenniken "head butted her in the nose, causing her to fall down." The incident happened about 2:30 a.m.

The injured woman reportedly was retrieving clothes that she had let her son's girlfriend wear, "when Mark approached her in an aggressive manner."

She said her son "started to yell at her and was acting very unusual." She said that Flenniken "had a history of illegal drug use" and believed that he may have been on drugs that night.

The head butt caused the woman to fall, according to police, and she then ran down the stairs. The woman's husband then got into a wrestling match with Flenniken, but Flenniken was able to get away and ran down the stairs after his mother.

That was when Flenniken hit her with the broomstick, which caused the woman to lose consciousness. She required seven stitches around her ear and had bruises in that area, according to the report.

She was transported to the hospital by her husband, after Flenniken and his girl friend had left the residence.

This information was obtained from the Gwinnett Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction. Questions should be directed to suwanee@patch.com.
