SWAT Standoff: 'Armed, Dangerous' Suspect Holding Gwinnett Firefighters Hostage

Police are negotiating in a subdivision near Collins Hill High.

Gwinnett Police SWAT officers were negotiating Wednesday evening (April 10) with an "armed and dangerous" suspect who is holding four Gwinnett firefighters hostage in a subdivision near Collins Hill High in Suwanee.

According to Gwinnett Police spokesperson Ed Ritter, a medical call from 2440 Walnut Grove Way came to Gwinnett Fire about 3:44 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.

Ritter would not confirm speculation that the person who made the call had been foreclosed on.

Gwinnett Fire spokesperson Tommy Rutledge said that it's the "first time I'm aware of" that firefighters had been held hostage. One firefighter was released.

"They did what they do every day, when they were taken hostage."

Ritter would not release details of negotiations and firefighters' conditions. The immediate area around the house has been evacuated. The firefighters' condition is not known.
