Emory Prof Named to Atlanta Public Schools Ethics Commission

Dr. Rebecca D. Pentz will serve a five-year term

A doctor from the Center for Ethics at is one of six new members appointed to the Ethics Commission of the Atlanta Public Schools this week.

Dr. Rebecca D. Pentz, professor of hematology and oncology in research ethics at the , was appointed to the commission during a board of education meeting Sept. 12.

The Ethics Commission investigates complaints that focus on board member code of ethics and conflict of interest policies.

Others appointed to the Ethics Commission include Edith Richardson of Atlanta Council of PTAs, Stephen Paul Cummings, II of The Atlanta Bar Association, Fred Masci of The Institute of Internal Auditors – Atlanta Chapter, Dr. Joy Berry of Georgia School Boards Association and Sam Woodhouse of The Gate City Bar Association.

All appointees will serve a five-year term on the commission. A seventh member will be appointed "in the near future."
