Five bike racks stolen from cars in Virginia-Highland since April

The Atlanta Police Department is warning Virginia-Highland residents to secure bike racks on cars to prevent thefts.

Five bike racks have been stolen off of cars in the neighborhood since April, according to police reports.

The most recent theft was June 11 on Greenwood Avenue.

In order to prevent these types of thefts, police spokesman Carlos Campos recommends "removing the bike rack after a ride and/or securing it with some kind of lock."

Back to back thefts occurred April 22 on Park Drive and April 23 on Elmwood Drive.

On May 29, a bike rack was stolen from Virginia Circle and on June 8, another was stolen from a car on Drewry Street.

Police encourage residents to call 911 to report suspicious activity.
