Where to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Virginia-Highland

St. Patrick's Day events abound in the area on Sunday.

 

The day that we all celebrate the Irish by drinking more than we usually would (of green beer, especially), wearing green and just having a very good time is finally here. It's St. Patrick's Day on Sunday, and there is no shortage of St. Patrick's Day events this weekend in and around the Virginia-Highland/Druid Hills area:

Atkins Park Restaurant & Bar (Virginia-Highland)

Irish favorites will be offered at this pub which just celebrated 91 years in business, including Guinness and Magners Irish Cider as well as bites of traditional Irish fare. If you're willing to make the drive, the pub's sister location in Smyrna will have a weekend-long bash including a traditional Irish festival, carnival rides and a redhead contest.

Friday through Sunday: Visit some of Atlanta's best bars in one day (or three) in this bar crawl that includes 10 bars: North Highland Pub, The Corner Tavern, George's, Cafe 640, Dark Horse Tavern, Neighbors Pub, Noche, Moe's and Joe's, Diesel Filling Station and The Cavern. Tickets are $10 for the Sunday bar crawl, $20 for the three-day pass and $25 for Paddyfest and the three-day bar crawl. Get full details and tickets here.

Dad's Garage Theatre, 280 Elizabeth St. NE (East Atlanta)

Sunday: Maybe you just want to watch a show for St. Paddy's Day. Check out this Irish-themed improv show, Sheamus O’Sh*t and Maggie O’MG’s Big Irish Debacle at 8 p.m. at Dad's Garage. They'll have crazy drinking games with leprechauns, a visit from the super sassy Irish Werewolf Girl, and even ol' St. Paddy himself will be handing out beers and potatoes (depending on whether you've been naughty or nice this year). Brick Store Pub,  125 East Court Square (Decatur)

Saturday & Sunday: Live music starts at noon and continues into the evening on Saturday and through the wee hours on Sunday. This family-friendly event will be a "a true celebration worthy of an Irish wedding or funeral" with traditional Irish food including scones, lamb stew, shepherd's pie, and corned beef and cabbage.

Midtown Comunitas Hospitality Restaurants

Communitas Hospitality restaurants are coming together this St. Patrick’s Day to serve Midtown Irish specialties. 10th & Piedmont, HOBNOB Neighborhood Tavern and Gilbert's Cafe & Bar are all serving green Miller Lite beer for $3, Lucky Leprechaun cocktails for $6 and corned beef brisket with mashed potatoes, braised cabbage and Pommery mustard for $13.95. Andrews Entertainment District, 56 East Andrews Drive (Buckhead)

Saturday and Sunday: Featuring 11 bars, the Andrews Entertainment District St. Patrick's Day Weekend Blowout will have drink specials galore, like 40 kegs with $1 green beers, $3 Irish whiskey shots and $5 special edition St. Patrick's Day 16 oz Bud bottles. Additionally, two ice luges will be open at Czar Ice Bar and in Stout Irish Sports Pub. Guests will also enjoy swag from sponsors and the world's largest rock, paper, scissors tournament with a grand prize trip to Las Vegas.

The rockin' party throughout the District's eight venues begins on Saturday with Kegs and Eggs at Stout Irish Sports Pub at 6 a.m. and continues through close at 2:30 a.m. and on Sunday runs from 12:30 p.m. to midnight.

Fado Irish Pub, 273 Buckhead Ave NE (Buckhead)

Sunday: One of the largest St. Patrick's Day festivals in Atlanta starts at noon, but it's never to early to start partying on St. Patrick's Day so the doors open at 7 a.m. for the 17th year of this outdoor festival. Irish Dancers, Bagpipers, Andy Birdstall, Secret Sauce, Astral Freaks and the best U2 tribute band in the world, Desire at 9 p.m.!

Tickets: $5 in advance for Saturday; door tickets are $10. $10 in advance for Sunday; door tickets are $15. Get all the details here.

Sunday: Come out for Shula's Beer 'n' Burgers for St. Patrick's Day. Guests are invited to enjoy $4 Irish Beers, $5 Shula's St. Patty's Burger, $5 Martini Specials and much more!
