Wine Bar Opening in Emory Village

Purple Corkscrew Wine Bar set to open in May

A wine bar is set to open in the heart of Emory Village.

, a “cozy, casual” wine bar will open below on June 1, according to owners and sisters Stefini Bethea and Kellie Owens.

“We both like wine, we both like entertaining and so we decided that we would open up a wine bar,” Bethea said.

She said they looked for a location for six months before deciding on the 1,000-square-foot space at 1445 Oxford Rd.

“Everywhere we looked, they already had a wine bar,” Bethea said. “When we found this location at Emory, we found that this was a need that wasn’t met.”

Bethea and Owens said they spoke to local residents and graduate students — the target market — to make sure the interest was there.

“We found that there was a need for it,” she said.

The concept is cozy and quaint, Bethea said, envisioning a Starbucks-esq. hangout to enjoy good wine.

“We want people to be able to come there and be able to enjoy good wine from all over the world in a relaxed scene,” she said. “It’s not going to be a college scene.”

Though parking is limited in the area, she said there is plenty of street parking and free parking at the Emory parking deck after 5 p.m.

Tentative hours starting June 1: Monday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Hours could be extended until 12:30 a.m. at a later date, depending on demand.
