Lowndes County School Nutrition Program receives Georgia Farm to School Award (valdostadailytimes.com) — Valdosta families should know the Lowndes County School Nutrition Program has earned the Georgia Farm to School Award for its work connecting students with fresh, locally grown foods. Under director Donna Hendley’s leadership, cafeterias are serving more Georgia-grown products and teaching students how agriculture and healthy eating support their community.
   

2. One dead after accidental fire on MLK Drive (valdostadailytimes.com) — A deadly fire at East Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and South Lee Street in Valdosta left one person dead and multiple residents displaced Saturday morning. Valdosta Fire Department crews arrived within minutes, quickly controlled the blaze, and closed nearby blocks during the response, while Red Cross assisted displaced occupants and investigators confirmed the cause as accidental.
   

3. Daphne Sermons earns Lowndes County Schools Spotlight Award (valdostadailytimes.com) — In Valdosta, Lowndes County Schools has honored bus driver Daphne Sermons as its December Spotlight Award winner and “Agent of Change.” Serving Westside Elementary, she’s celebrated for daily kindness, creating a welcoming bus environment, and even writing personalized notes back to students during Bus Driver Appreciation Week.
   

4. Pinevale Elementary debuts Pinevale Beauty & Barber Salon to support students and families (wctv.tv) — Pinevale Elementary in Valdosta has opened a free on-campus beauty and barber salon to give students haircuts while easing costs for families. Licensed barbers from World of Fades will visit monthly, with plans to expand services for girls and opportunities for more local beauticians to get involved.
   

5. Wiregrass Practical Nursing students honored at fall pinning ceremony (valdostatoday.com) — Valdosta’s Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Practical Nursing students have just been pinned on the Valdosta campus, marking their official entry into the nursing profession. The ceremony celebrated their hard work, highlighted special award winners, and noted that the program is offered locally and on other campuses, with spring semester registration for prerequisites opening in January 2026.
