Cobb Commissioners Delay Decision On 108-Home Development

Open space community planned by Capkey Real Estate Advisors is met by fierce opposition from neighbors.

WEST COBB, GA -- With several residents up in arms about the project, Cobb County Commissioners this week decided to table a proposed 108-home subdivision, Patch has learned.

Capkey Real Estate Advisors' plan to build an OSC (open space community) at the corner of Dallas Highway and County Road was met with severe opposition from residents, who said that the proposal would compound the area's traffic woes.

The commissioners were considering the issue after the county staff recommended that 72 homes could be built on the parcels. But as Tuesday night's meeting wore on, the panel decided to delay the decision until the next zone meeting.

A letter to the editor in the Marietta Daily Journal says that the development would lead to overcrowded schools and overbuilding.

"Several of our schools are overcrowded without the addition of this development. Now, with this possibly being approved, every developer and builder will want to buy land in west Cobb and follow the same guidelines," the letter outlines.

Commission Chairman Mike Boyce said he needed more information about the project. “I don’t understand the approval by the staff,” Boyce said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We’re adding almost 50 percent more houses.”

Commissioners will convene again on April 18 at the next zoning meeting.
