Ex-McEachern Coach Indicted in Student Sexual Assault

If convicted, Terrance Tarpley could spend a maximum of 25 years in prison and face a $100,000 fine.

A former McEachern High School teacher and coach has been indicted on one count of sexual assault against a student.

The indictment, which was handed down on March 28, alleges that Terrance Tarpley, 34, of Marietta, had sexual intercourse with a female student who was enrolled at McEachern on Jan. 15, 2012.

If convicted, Tarpley could spend a maximum of 25 years in prison and face a $100,000 fine.

Georgia statute prevents consent of the victim as a defense, said Kim Isaza, the spokeswoman for Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds.

An arraignment date has not been set.

Tarpley had been an assistant coach on McEachern's football, girls basketball, and track and field teams. 

An Atlanta native, he has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Marshall University, where he played football and ran track; is a former Campbell High coach; and has a wife and two small children.

He resigned from the Cobb County School District on June 19 and surrendered to Cobb authorities on June 28. Tarpley is currently free on bond.
