Gun Club Targets Customers with Grand Opening

Members of the Powder Springs community as well as gun and hunting enthusiasts were on hand Friday for the grand opening and ribbon-cutting at the Governors Gun Club.

The establishment on C.H. James Parkway in Powder Springs—a short shot away from Hiram and not far from Austell—has been open for five weeks but has already seen residents from as far away as North Carolina and Texas become members, owner Kristina Brown said. The club's membership, she added, also includes active military currently serving as far away as Afghanistan.

Several employees also have ties to the military, she said, as some are current or former members of the armed forces, while others have law enforcement backgrounds.

The business, which is open to the public, features 16 rifle-rated shooting lanes, a training classroom, a gunsmith and custom firearm shop, and several other amenities for current and future gun owners. For those into bow sports, the business offers a 35-yard indoor archery range and bow tech services. Retail space in the store holds several manners of guns, bows and accessories.

Club memberships remain available, with benefits ranging from an exclusive lounge with pool and card tables, humidor, firearm valet and storage, and more.

Guns and alcohol, but they don’t mix

Friday’s grand opening comes nearly a year after the business was granted an alcohol license—one that had some opposition against it. The Powder Springs City Council last September approved the license by a 3-2 vote after officials with the business assured city leaders that safety protocols would be in place.

According to its website, the club’s lounge, which is covered by a serving license, is only accessible to those with “Full Metal Jacket” memberships. Those members have their food and beverages charged to their account. If alcohol is purchased, a member’s account is flagged, and that member cannot be checked into the range that day.

“Members CANNOT drink and shoot, drink then shoot, or drink while in possession of a firearm,” the Governors Gun Club website states. “Members must be responsible firearm owners and responsible drinkers; otherwise they will not be patrons or members at the facility.”
