Hillgrove's Girls Second at Roswell Relays

The boys finish fifth behind two wins by strongman Jabri Hunt-Days.

The girls track team finished second to the host Hornets at the prestigious Roswell Relays on Saturday at .

The Lady Hawks finished with 67.5 points, well behind Roswell’s 97 but comfortably ahead of third-place Chamblee’s 51.

Among the boys, Hillgrove finished a close fifth with 44 points. Roswell won with 66.5, followed by Brookwood (55), North Hall (48) and Creekside (46).

The relays, co-sponsored by the Roswell Rotary Club and Roswell High School, date back to the 1950s. This year girls from 21 high schools and boys from 19 high schools competed in 14 events.

Among the standout performances for the Hillgrove girls:

  • The team of Bianca Unigwe, Bridgett Burrus, Lauren Martin and Angelica Henderson finished second in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 49.77 seconds.
  • Kourtney Keller and Charity Freeman finished fourth and fifth in the 100-meter dash with times of 12.83 and 12.86 seconds, respectively.
  • Keller and Chelsea Crayton finished third and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 45.33 and 49.18 seconds, respectively.
  • Taylor Johnson joined Freeman, Keller and Crayton to win the 4x400 relay in a time of 4:04.91.
  • Paula Santa Cruz, Christy Powell, Claire Warren and Bianca Long teamed up to finish third in 4x800 relay in 10:46.89.
  • Burrus, Johnson, Freeman and Crayton combined to win the 1,600-meter sprint medley in 4:35.08.
  • Unigwe, Powell, Warren and Long finished in a dead heat for fourth with a team of Centennial girls in the distance medley in 13:44.11.
  • Quiahja Williams tied for fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4-foot-10.
  • Johnson leapt 16 feet, 6¼ inches to finish fourth in the long jump.

Among the top performers for Hillgrove’s boys:

  • Jabri Hunt-Days won the discus with a throw of 155 feet, 6 inches and the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 8 inches.
  • Nicholas Parks, Chesley McNeil, Ike Erege and Kenyan Drake finished third in the 4x100 relay in 43.89 seconds.
  • Jon Sanders joined Parks, Erege and Drake to finish second in the 1,600-meter sprint medley in 3:47.40.
