Police: Teen Punched for 3 Hours

The incident occurred April 12 at a Powder Springs residence.

Inside a home on Harmony Road last Friday morning, a 16-year-old girl was repeatedly punched in the face over a nearly three hour period.

Keisha Mitchell, 36, of Powder Springs, allegedly threw the first punch at 2:45 a.m. April 12, according to a Cobb County criminal warrant. The last one was thrown about 5:30 a.m.

The teen called her father during the incident, and he contacted the police.

The father "stated he could hear accused yelling at the juvenile victim and then heard accused physically assault the juvenile victim while he was on the phone, on two occasions," the police officer wrote in the warrant.

At one point, the father said, Mitchell allegedly told the teen, "I'm not done with you yet."

When an officer with the Cobb County Police Department arrived on the scene, he found the girl with "visible bruising and swelling to the left eye" and "slight abrasions on her neck." Mitchell also repeatedly choked the teen, according to the warrant.

It wasn't the first time that she and Mitchell had fought, and the officer "was unable to determine at the time if the injuries had occurred during or after a previously documented altercation between accused and the juvenile victim, which was reported at approximately" 2:02 a.m. that same day, records show. In that case, Mitchell and the teen allegedly shoved each other.

Mitchell and the teen were photographed, and the pictures were placed into evidence.

It is not clear from the warrant if the teen required medical attention. A spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department was not immediately available for comment this afternoon.

Mitchell, whose relationship to the girl was not listed in the warrant, was arrested late Sunday on a charge of cruelty to children in the first degree, according to online jail records.

The teen's father had a digital recording of a conversation with Mitchell, which he played for police. During the conversation, she allegedly admitted to punching his daughter in the face with a closed fist, records show.

Mitchell was released from the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on Monday on a $5,000 bond.
