Suspect in West Cobb Chase Faces 12 Charges

He allegedly ran stop signs, sped and drove onto one homeowner's property.

A Powder Springs man who led Cobb police on a high-speed chase through a residential neighborhood Sunday afternoon is wanted on a dozen charges.

No one was injured during the chase, but Jawan Antonious Brown allegedly ran stop signs, reached speeds in excess of 65 m.p.h. in residential neighborhoods where the posted speed limit was 25 m.p.h. and drove onto the Ridgecrest Drive property of at least one homeowner, according to an arrest warrant.

Brown, police said, abandoned his 1997 BMW 540i there as it continued to roll and came to a rest in a garden. The homeowner's tomato plants were destroyed, authorities said.

It is not clear why police pursued Brown. The warrant indicates he was driving on a class CP license. According to the Georgia Department of Driver Services, a class CP license is a learner's permit.

By the time the chase ended about 1 p.m. Sunday, Brown allegedly led police along Macedonia Road, Westview Terrace, Westview Drive, Westview Cove and other roadways in unincorporated Cobb, according to the warrant.

Cobb police conducted an inventory of the abandoned BMW and found two clear, small plastic bags containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in the front passenger compartment of the vehicle, according to the warrant. Four pieces of identification with Brown's name were located in the same area of the vehicle.

Brown faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, marijuana possession and obstruction.
