A recent study showed that travel and tourism remains the number one economic driver in Cobb County, with the industry having a total economic impact of more than $2.18 billion and employing more than 31,000 in 2011.
The study performed by Robert Lann, showed a 5.1 percent increase over the previous year for economic impact and a 4.7 percent increase for employment.
βThe economic outcomes are highly encouraging and show how important the travel and tourism industry is to Cobb County,β said Tim Lee, chairman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners. βTourism is the major revenue generator and job creator for Cobb County.β
Commissioned by Cobb Travel & Tourism, the studyβs purpose was to gain knowledge of Cobbβs travel and tourism impact in the county. The same study was also conducted for the previous two years.
βI am thrilled to see an increase,β said Al Martin, chairman of Cobb Travel & Tourism. βAs we continue to work together with our partners and showcase Cobbβs unique tourism destinations, I believe we will continue to see the industryβs economic impact grow.β
