2 Charged With Trafficking Meth In Cherokee County

Cherokee sheriff's deputies found the drug during a search of a vehicle following a traffic stop.

ACWORTH, GA — A routine traffic stop conducted early Tuesday led to a Cherokee sheriff's deputy unearthing a considerable amount of meth along Interstate 75.

The deputy conducted the traffic stop on a car for equipment violations around 1:30 a.m. Dec. 18 on the northbound side of the interstate. He made contact with the driver, Dalton resident Lisa Jenkins, 39, and 24-year-old Jeremy Jones of LaFayette.

The deputy "immediately noticed their behavior was extremely suspicious," the Cherokee Sheriff's Office said. Worried that the pair may be trying to hide something in the car, he asked if he could search the vehicle.

The driver and passenger gave consent, and deputies found 4.4 ounces of methamphetamine in the car. Readers should note that Georgia law sets the threshold for a trafficking meth charge at 1 ounce.

Both Jones and Jenkins were charged with trafficking methamphetamine and booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.
