Here are the top four stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:
- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is asking for dog food donations as part of its Pet Assistance & Welfare for Seniors (P.A.W.S.) program. If you can give, please head over to the Amazon wish list to see what it is in need of. The program aims to keep pets in their homes instead of the shelters and serves pet parents in need, including the Meals on Wheels Senior Citizens program. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
- Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services raised over $6,000 in a fundraiser for Firefighter David Gray and his family. Gray was recently diagnosed with cancer and has served Woodstock for 17 years. A group of local women called the Grams Girls made a handmade quilt to be raffled off, and they also created personalized quilts for Gray's family members. (Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services via Facebook)
- Going on during the month of August, "Trail Story: The Hike" is a self-paced walk along Rubes Creek Trail hosted by the Sequoyah Regional Library System. As you go down the trail, there will be signs posted with pages from the book "The Hike" by Alison Farrell. Across from the signs will be interactive QR codes that you and your family can scan for book review questions. The project geared towards families is suitable for all ages. (Sequoyah Regional Library System)
- The Cherokee County Engineering - Roadway Capital Program advised via Facebook that there will be road closures on East Cherokee Drive at the South Holly Springs Road/Thornwood Drive intersection from August 15 to August 17 for paving. The project will be going on during business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. (Cherokee County via Facebook)
