Here are the top three stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:

  1. A fire destroyed a home in Cherokee County Wednesday night. The Canton home on Glen Echo Drive was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, the home was ultimately destroyed despite the crews' work in extinguishing the blaze. All five residents of the family home were able to escape the fire after being woken by a window shattering, and two of the family's pets were safely removed from the home. No injures were reported, but the family cat is still missing. The fire is under investigation. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  2. The Born to Run 5K is happening in downtown Canton Saturday morning starting at 7:30 a.m. and traffic will be affected significantly. If you're going to be in the area, please know that there will be road closures, delays and detours until after the race ends at 9 a.m. East Main Street will be closed from Rail Road Street to Golf Course Road.   • Morning INfluence: The Impact of Small Scale Manufacturing In Your Downtown featuring Made Mercantile. Guests are welcome to the networking event on Friday, but please RSVP here. At the Woodstock Chambers at City Center building, 8534 Main Street. (8 - 9 a.m.)
  • Fall Fling at Patriots Park: for all ages, children must be accompanied by an adult. Wear your favorite costume and enjoy games, candy and more. The event will be held at Patriots Park, 1485 Kellogg Creek Road, Acworth. If it rains, the event will be held at the Rose Creek Library in Woodstock. (4 - 6 p.m.)
  • Parent's Night Out: have a nice evening out and about while the kids hang out at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center in Canton. They will swim, play games, watch movies and eat some pizza. The event will be Halloween-themed, and age-appropriate costumes are welcome. (5:30 - 10 p.m.)
  • Jazz Night: head over to the back porch of the Reeves House for free jazz tonight. Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase, you can bring your own chairs or blanket if you wish. The special Halloween centerpieces will be raffled off at the end of the evening. At the Reeves House, 734 Reeves Street. (6 p.m.)
  • Casting Crowns: performing live at First Baptist Church, 11905 Highway 92. (7 p.m.)

  • Don't miss out, Woodstock Parks and Recreation has some really great events coming up. Yesterday, the family and I were downtown in the Gazebo painting Día de los Muertos rocks. It was so fun! We placed them around town, maybe you'll find one that we made under a bush or against a wall somewhere. Thank you for the fun evening, Woodstock Parks and Recreation!   • The scarecrows downtown are amazing this year. After painting rocks, we wandered around a bit to see as many as we could before dinner. Great job, everyone! If you haven't voted, head over to the Visitors Center during normal business hours to cast your vote for $1 a piece. Voting closes on Halloween. (Visit Woodstock)
  • The Thriller Nights of Lights light show will be at The Gifted Ferret nightly until Halloween. You can park out in front of the store at 1910 Eagle Drive, tune your radio to 92.5 FM and take in the light show. The show runs from 8 p.m. to midnight, so head over when you have time to relax to the music and lights. (The Gifted Ferret)
  • The Garland Mountain Day Hike is this Saturday! The morning hike is about four miles and is considered "moderate." The hike starts at 10 a.m. at the Garland Mountain Horse and Hiking Trails, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
