  1. Armed robbery isn't a joking matter, and a man should soon find out exactly how unfunny it is. On Thursday night, a suspect went into the Smoke Stars vape shop on Sixes Road in Canton, fully masked, and trained his gun on the clerk. The man demanded products from the store and then proceeded to laugh, take off his mask and sunglasses and tell the clerk it was just a joke. He told the clerk that the gun was an airsoft gun, which isn't confirmed at this point and that he was doing the stunt for a YouTube channel. In an update late Friday afternoon, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office advised that the suspect has been identified and captured. (WSB-TV Atlanta and Cherokee Sheriff via Facebook)
  2. The Cherokee County School District Class of 2022 achieved ACT scores ranking in the top 10% in Georgia. The class scored a 22.2 average, while Georgia's average is 21.6 and the National average is 19.8. The ACT is a college entrance and placement exam scored on a scale of 1 to 36. Scores were high for all of the CCSD high schools, with Cherokee at 21.1, Creekview at 22.3, Etowah at 22.9, River Ridge at 22.6, Sequoyah at 22.6 and Woodstock at 21.8. Way to go! (Patch)
  3. Eighteen firefighters from Cherokee County were promoted on Thursday. Eight rose to the rank of sergeant, another seven were promoted to lieutenant and two were promoted to the rank of captain. The firefighters' new collar insignia was pinned by Fire Chief Eddie Robinson and family members pinned new badges on those promoted. Congratulations, and thank you for all you do! (Cherokee Fire & Rescue)
  4. The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is holding its regular Saturday adoption event this morning, but for today's event, the adoption fee is waived for all cats over 6 months. All available animals can be seen online here. A QR code at the front door of the shelter will become active starting at 10 a.m. today, please scan the QR code to enter the "virtual line." The shelter adopts on a first come, first served basis, so animals can't be put on hold. The regular adoption fee includes spay or neuter, heartworm and leukemia testing, initial vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative, microchipping and more. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
  5. The story circulating about three young boys that refilled an empty candy bowl on their trick-or-treat route has another happy ending. On Halloween, the three boys arrived at a home and found the bowl empty. With pure hearts and happy souls, they filled the bowl back up with their own candy so that other children could have some when they came around. Those amazing kids have been identified as two 13-year-old friends and a younger brother from Woodstock. This community couldn't be more proud! 11 Alive followed up to locate the children and posted the update online on Thursday afternoon. Parents, great job! Boys, way to go! (11 Alive)
