Here are the top five stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:

  1. The Cherokee Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to request the removal of QR codes from ballots. The request to be put forth to the Georgia General Assembly, Secretary of State and the State Elections Board is due in part to voiced concerns with the security, vulnerabilities, accuracy and verification of the codes. (Cherokee County)
  2. Woodstock-based SuiteSciens, a NetSuite consulting and implementation firm, has joined forces with Strongpoint, a software developer that offers solutions for documentation, analysis, deployment and compliance. The partnership aims to provide automated documentation, SuiteSciens tools, access monthly licenses and more to companies as they expand. (EIN News)
  3. The agenda for the regular meeting of the Mayor and Council has been released. The meeting will be on August 22 at 7 p.m. at The Chambers at City Center on Main Street. There is time scheduled within the meeting for the public to address the council. (Woodstock Government)
  4. A man out of Canton has been convicted and sentenced for sex crimes against children. The Cherokee County arrest of Santiago Jaimez in 2020 was for one of four alleged victims, the other three are in another state. Jaimez received a life sentence without the possibility of parole. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  5. The Cherokee Career Expo is coming up on September 28. The event will be held at the Northside Cherokee Conference Center on Bluffs Parkway. Resume review assistance will be available and starts at 1 p.m., and the doors open at 2 p.m. Many companies will be represented at the Expo, including our local sheriff's office, Northside Hospital and many more.
