Here are the top five stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:
- Two Canton families found a shocking surprise in their children's Halloween candy - sewing needles. We've heard the story for eons, but it's never anyone we know. Now, it's happened in real life. The two families found the needles in Reese's Take 5 candy bars, and both incidents were in the Great Sky neighborhood, located off of Reservoir Drive. Thankfully, no one was injured, and no further reports have been made. Please check your children's candy and reach out to the police department if you have any information on the incidents in question. (WSB-TV Atlanta)
- Officer Joe Burson, killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop in 2021, has been honored in the renaming of the I-575 at Sixes Road interchange in his memory. The section of highway will be known going forward as the Officer Joseph W. Burson Memorial Interchange and signs will be added to the entrance and exit ramps there. Officer Burson, 25, had been with the Holly Springs Police Department for only 18 months before his tragic passing. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is searching for a missing person, Alexis Brianna Chandler, missing since the evening of October 29. The 19-year-old was last seen in the area of Adams Road in the Freehome area of the county, and her vehicle was last seen in the area of Jonesboro Road near McDonough. The Sheriff's Office has posted a picture of the vehicle and missing person on their Facebook page here. If you have seen her or have information that could help, please reach out to Sergeant Robert Haugh with the Criminal Investigations Division at 770-928-0239 or 9-1-1 and reference case SO22-015334. (Cherokee Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
- The Hub Transformation Project is kicking into high gear. Traffic will be shifted around the new roundabout at Towne Lake Parkway and Mill Street while construction continues in the center of the traffic circle. This will in turn realign the Mill Street travel lanes to make room for curb and gutter work. Milling and paving is being done at this time, and striping and signage will follow. The new traffic pattern will go into effect on the morning of November 9. (City of Woodstock via Facebook)
