What’s really happening in the local real estate market?

If you listen to some, you might think the current real estate market is in free fall.

The picture is more complex. Compared to last year, in the second week of October:

  • Pending sales are down 43%
  • Closings are down 22%
  • Prices are up 10%, and up 14% year-to-date on tight inventory, as homeowners stay put

These changes present opportunities for both buyers and sellers. Sellers can offer their homes with less competition. Buyers have more flexibility to negotiate prices. And with the right guidance, buyers have options to lower their interest rates as well. But to take advantage of these opportunities you need a trusted advisor with deep experience in our market and at getting deals done.

Here are the top three stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:

  1. The Canton Police Department is asking for help with its investigation into a recent jewelry store burglary. At 11:36 p.m. on January 4, Canton officers responded to an alarm at Kay Jewelers on Cumming Highway. They could not locate anyone in or around the business and there were no breached entries observed. However, the next morning, officers were called back out to the business for a reported burglary. In the search, police found the suspects cut a hole in the roof to gain entry the night before. Canton is working with other jurisdictions in the area that have similar burglaries under investigation. If you have information about the suspects or crime, please reach out to the Canton Police Department at 770-720-4883. (11 Alive)
  2. If you called 9-1-1 in Cherokee County during 2022, Cherokee County E 9-1-1 would love for you to take a survey. The Citizen Feedback Survey will aid in evaluating things like how long it took for the call to be answered, how you'd rate the help received from the Communications Officer you spoke to and how you'd rate your experience overall. There are optional spots for additional comments and an evaluation of their website. You can access the survey here. (Cherokee County E 9-1-1 via Facebook)
  3. Don't forget to bring over metal pieces that you'd like included in the upcoming community sculpture to be created by Corrina Sephora, the artist featured in the current exhibit "Echoes of Ecology" at the Reeves House. If you have some spare metal and you're interested in participating, you can put your piece of solid steel, copper, brass or bronze into the wheelbarrow in front of the Reeves House until January 26. Cast iron and contributions that are plated, painted, grease covered, zinc inclusive or galvanized cannot be accepted. The completed sculpture will be unveiled on February 26, during the closing reception for the exhibit. (Reeves House at Woodstock Arts via Facebook)
