CCSD Celebrating National School Lunch Week
CCSD's School Nutrition Program has planned a menu of healthy and fun choices like "breakfast for lunch" and National Pasta Day.

WOODSTOCK, GA — The Cherokee County School District is celebrating National School Lunch Week with special entrees for its students to savor. The National School Lunch Program serves 30 million children every day, and this year’s celebration theme, Lots 2 Love, encourages students and school nutrition professionals to share what they love most about school lunch.
CCSD’s School Nutrition Program has planned a menu of healthy and fun choices like “breakfast for lunch” on Tuesday. Schools across the district on Tuesday offered scrambled eggs, sausage and a biscuit served with hot cinnamon peaches and fresh fruit. Cafeterias across CCSD will celebrate National Pasta Day on Wednesday with homemade pasta and marinara sauce.
“School lunches are healthier than ever, with more locally grown fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and less fat and sodium,” CCSD School Nutrition Director Tina Farmer said. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the benefits of our lunch program, and the appealing choices we offer.”

The federally-funded National School Lunch Program provides nutritionally balanced, healthy meals to students every day. The program, which has been serving the nation’s children for more than 70 years, requires school meals to meet federal nutrition standards like offering fruits and vegetables daily, serving whole grain-rich foods, and limiting fat, calories and sodium.
