Here are the top four stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:

  1. All Cherokee County School District (CCSD) varsity football games have been moved to Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in anticipation of severe weather on Friday. The games affected are Creekview HS (Homecoming vs Etowah HS), Sequoyah HS (Homecoming vs River Ridge HS) and Woodstock HS (Homecoming vs Rome HS). (CCSD Press Release)
  2. Hurricane Ian is expected to hit our county Friday night with heavy rain and possible wind speeds of 25 - 35 MPH. The governor declared a State of Emergency as of Tuesday at 7 p.m. with the expectation that Georgia will see flooding, downed trees, downed powerlines and debris. We should expect heavier than usual traffic as Florida's evacuated continue to head north, as of Tuesday evening there was already slowdown seen on the highways. (WSB-TV Atlanta)
  3. Though the actual future path is unknown for Hurricane Ian, ahead of the weather that should hit our area Thursday through Saturday, the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) issued a reminder to create or review your family's emergency plan. Downed power lines are a likelihood, flooding is a possibility, so today is a good time to get ready for the storms. Tips from the agency include signing up for alerts and warnings for our area, making sure everyone in the house knows the safest place in the building, having an evacuation plan, building an emergency preparedness kit and securing important documents. (Cherokee County EMA via Facebook)
  4. Holly Springs Police Officer Boyce is being praised for his kindness and compassion towards a homeless man after meeting him at the station. In speaking to the man, Officer Boyce learned that he had been turned away from a homeless shelter because he had no ID and had been going without food. The officer found it in his heart to get a hotel room in Canton and some food for the man, paying out of his own pocket. (WSB-TV Atlanta)
