Here are the top four stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:
- The Cherokee County School District (CCSD) has opened up the window for entries into the fourth annual CCSD School Nutrition Parent Recipe Contest. Spinach is this year's featured vegetable, dig out your favorite spinach side dish recipe, and make sure to turn in your entry form by September 14. Contestants have a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card and have their winning creation featured on the menu at school. - Safe Kids Cherokee County, led by Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services, partnered with the Atlanta Area Council Boy Scouts of America to create a "Life Jacket Loaner Station" at the Camp Allatoona Aquatics Base Camp on Lake Allatoona. The camp is used by the Boy Scouts for meetings, camping and education. The station will be kept stocked and ready to use going forward. (Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services Press Release)
- A Cherokee High School senior earned her private pilot's certificate after completing an AFJROTC Flight Academy program held at the University of West Florida. The eight-week program's aim is to "improve the recruitment, retention and diversity of the Air Force and aviation industry." Lexi Ly, an Air Force JROTC Cadet Colonel, is working towards her goal of becoming an Air Force pilot. (CCSD Press Release)
- In a "Meet the Officer" spotlight, the Cherokee County School District shared a brief question and answer session with Officer Samira Rezagholizadeh, who is assigned to Mill Creek Middle School. Officer Rezagholizadeh was a member of the Cobb County Sheriff's Office and the Kennesaw State University Police Department for about eight years prior to her assignment at Mill Creek. The officer gave an important safety tip for children and parents alike, saying "Never tag your location when you post on social media. People will notice when you're not home and potentially use that information to break into your home." (CCSD Press Release)
