Cherokee Sheriff's Video: Don't Touch Phone When You Drive
A new Cherokee Sheriff's Office video carries a mother's heartfelt plea, and lip-syncing deputies, in message against distracted driving.

CANTON, GA — A lip-sync video released this week by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office pays tribute to a 16-year-old driver who lost her life last year in a traffic accident. As young motorists return to school this month, the video cautions them and all drivers to avoid distracted driving by staying off their cell phones while they're on the road.
Madilyn Taylor "Maddi" Phillips, a student and cheerleader at Woodstock High School, died on Sept. 8, 2017, when her car was struck by a flatbed construction truck at an intersection near the town of Ball Ground.
In the first part of the five-minute video, sheriff's deputies dance and lip-sync to the rap tune "Can't Touch This" to warn motorists against picking up their cell phones to talk or text while driving.

In the second part of the video, Maddi's mother talks about her family's loss and urges everyone behind the wheel to avoid driving while distracted.
"Drive!" she says. "Don't pay attention to anything else in the car. Put your hands on the steering wheel and your eyes on the road and drive."
