- The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners is holding a regular meeting tonight at 6 p.m. at the Cherokee Admin Complex, 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton. During the meeting, there will be a period for public comment as noted in the agenda, you can brush up on the rules for public participation on the Cherokee County Rules of Procedure portal online. There is also a Planning Commission Public Hearing this evening at 7 p.m. at the Admin Complex. The agenda for this meeting can be found online here. (Cherokee County)
- The Cherokee County Health Department's Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic is today from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Woodstock Health Center, 7545 North Main Street. The flu shot is covered by many insurance plans, but for those paying out of pocket, the cost is $25 for the regular vaccine and $65 for the high-dose vaccine meant for those 65 and older. Both forms of the vaccine protect against four different flu strains. The clinic accepts insurance, cash, checks and credit cards. For more information, please see the listing here. - Woodstock resident Gary Curtis won the top prize at the 2022 Bluff Park Art Show in Hoover, Alabama on Saturday. A full-time artist of around 40 years, Curtis was among more than 100 artists in the show. His winning painting will be added to the Bluff Park Art Association's permanent collection. Curtis' paintings have been featured in American Artist, on the cover of Artist Magazine, in the Daytona Beach Museum of Arts & Sciences and in the Ohr-O-Keefe Museum in Mississippi. (Hoover Sun)
- Three house fires on Saturday required the services of Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services. The first two house fires started in the early morning on Sunlight Drive and River Chase Drive, the third started in the evening on Boston Ridge. The fires were extinguished, and there were no injuries reported. (Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services)

- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter has some adorable pets up for adoption today. Starting at 10 a.m., you can head over to the shelter to see your new buddy. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/leukemia testing, initial vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative, a microchip, a sample bag of food and more. - Hand Up Stand Up's Back Hand Comedy Festival is in Woodstock this week, October 6-9. There will be over 40 comics performing at 5 venues to raise funds for five non-profits. You can read more about the Hand Up Stand Up mission on their website, they produce comedy shows to support local non-profit partners. Tickets are on sale now for the festival with shows at the Woodstock Arts Theatre, Rootstock, Woodstock Arts Event Green, Wheeler Street Amphitheater and MadLife Stage & Studios. - Presented by Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and Safe Kids Cherokee County, the Tailgate with a Firefighter event is coming up this weekend. On Saturday starting at 11 a.m., the event will be held at The Mill on Etowah and will feature fire trucks, food, face painting, games, a Dress Like a Firefighter Contest and a VIP section.
